I have a Savage b-mag in 17 wsm. I absolutely love the cartridge and to be honest the rifle shoots great but is clunky and you know a Savage Bmag. Doing research there was at one point in time a ruger 77 chambered in 17 wsm but was fairly pricy. Is /was there any other rifles chambered for this round? Does anyone know of any that are on the way to market or is this awesome little cartridge destined for a slow death?

Im afraid this round will fade into oblivion. Not many factory rifles and either cheap or upper end in price range. Nothing in better quality at a mid range in price $800-1200. There is a used Volquartsen on the EE but its in the upper price range. Owned two and one was junk and the other was much more accurate but still a Plastic B Mag. Its what ended me ever buying anything SAVAGE.

It really is too bad, as it quite likely is my favourite rifle dispite the rifle being the worst rifle I own lol. The fact that the cartridge makes it such an enjoyable rifle, despite the rifle, I can only imagine that a reasonably priced rifle in a higher quality would make this round take off. It is hands down better than the 22 wmr and 17 hmr in my opinion.

I've read that all the 17WSM ammo out there is made by Winchester, though I have no way to prove that. If that's the case, I would wonder about the accuracy potential of the ammo through any gun. I've wondered about the options myself.

When I was looking at the caliber, I decided there were others I wanted to try first/more...so I settled on 22 Hornet. Couldn't find a CZ527 (=my objective) but in my search found a really nice 527 in 17 Hornet. Now I really have no need for a 17WSM, but I might suggest the OP explore that caliber. Especially if you decide to reload, but the 527 shoots Hornady 20gr. under 3/4 MOA when I do my part. Under 1/2 when the stars align. 17 Hornet is a better varmint caliber than I expected, and that capable without being overly loud. Worth considering maybe?

I too was looking at the 17wsm a couple years back my local gun store didn't recommend it because there was only one flavor (Savage B-mag)
I then looked at the CZ-527 but as usual I was late for the party and they sold out and are discontinued.

Today I shoot 223

Non reuseable brass is all that I shoot .17 , .22 even obsolete .25 Stevens & .32rf
therefore I am a hostage to factory loads.

Reloading is fantastic when a person has the desire and ''Wants'' to reload ,I don't
have the time or inclination to set up a station.

skwerl buddy. Come on man. Those obsolete rimfires at $250 plus a box couldnt convert you to a reloader. I did the math and you can easily reload 50 rounds for about $23. One of these things is much bigger than the other. $250+>$23. Just sayin

Yea I know , only i shoot my ''Favorites'' just for grins and to be certain
they cycle & are safe . (10 - 20 rounds)
I have accumulated enough to last quite a while at this rate.

My serious shooting (if you can call it) for groups I like my Annies , Coopers & CZ MTR'S.

I hear yah pal and thats quite a collection but still think reloading would allow you so much more fun out of that beauty collection you have. Just sayin and im thinkin you dont really punch a time clock any longer.

I have the 17WSM in two rifles but hardly have and shells. But do have a 22 Hornet and a 22-250 so am still covered. But the crack of a 17 is so satisfying

Clunky is a word I have heard before in relation to the sounds emitting from the bolt but once it is locked up the only clunk should be the firing pin falling.

Checking with the various suppliers in Canada should get you a source. A customer at the LGS wanted the 25 grain bullet and we were able to get him what he wanted but that was three years ago.

Not much of anything available. You could build or order a RimX, but the price point will be steep. I was trying to convert a 22lr rimX to 17wsm, but was stuck on getting a pre fit barrel chambered in 17 wsm. I guess I just didn't push hard enough for one, or have one rechambered for it. Either way, it was going to be more than I wanted to spend on a barrel, so that ended. Even getting the bolt and mags was going to prove hard, but attainable.

Actually Chris , I am working on getting a ''Favorite'' in 22-15-60 blk pwdr.
now that is where I will be reloading .

If you happen to obtain that Favourite, send me some pics or better yet put them up on here. Sounds awesome and lots of fun. Marmot medicine

I just don't see this cartridge catching on, ballistically the 17 Hornet is superior, and being a centerfire, you can develop accurate loads for a particular rifle.

17WSM has become the unicorn round in Canada. Bought one chambered in that caliber last year. Been able to find only 3 boxes in the whole year. Sold out and on "back order" everywhere. Went to a gun shop last time I was in Ontario and the guy never even heard of it.

Just a FYI, I finally found two boxes of Hornady 20gr 17 WSM ammo at Canadian Tire in Windsor ON. Bought them both - still looking for more (if anyone finds any, please feel free to let me know where!)
