I've had my own negative Savage experiences (rimfires) but one of the most accurate rifles I ever owned was a Savage HB .223. I love that Savage makes calibers like 17M2, 17 Hornet, 22 Hornet...but you have to be willing to buy something like a model 25 "walking varminter" to play ball. A beefed-up, overpriced rimfire action with a poorly thought-out stock. I know I could live with the build quality/price of a Savage 22 Hornet...just give me something that looks good at the same time.
To the question-I saw the 1885 reviewed in this caliber, first time I ever felt the drive to own a 17WSM. Didn't act on it, but it's stayed at the back of my mind. I actually think a 17Hornet/CZ527 is the king of the zippy little .17s, but this would be a great rifle to play around with for sure.
