I have a new Stoeger X20 break barrel and when I load pellets into the barrel they do not go all the way in. There is a small amount of the skirt that sits above the barrel face, and when I close the barrel some of the lead skirt gets pinched between the rear of the barrel and the " breech face",breaking off a small ring of lead arround the rifling. The only way to load pellets is to push them all the way in with a nail or punch or whatever.What do you guys do to rectify this problem?
 
Not sure what you mean by different size.I have tried about 9 or 10 different pellets and they all do the same thing.It's a pain always having to push the pellet all the way into the bore.
 
Quality European pellets come in several different diameters in the same caliber. BSA guns are known for generous chambers and likely some of the Chinese and Spanish stuff as well.......Harold

Is the barrel 100% clean?
Have you tried all typical pellets?

If so,


Sometimes and more often than normal, I have found less expensive Chinese springers to have a burr, or edge left from machining. In these circumstances a green Dremel buffing cone was needed for mine
 
OK,thanks for all the replies! That gives me a few other things to try. I was not aware that pellets were available in different sizes. There does seem to be a fairly sharp edge on the barrel, so I will try buffing a wee bit.

Sounds like you just have a tight barrel,which is not necessarily a bad thing.
What your doing is seating the pellet into the rifling when using that nail or punch.You should be doing that anyway for the most consistent accuracy..

Exactly how tight is it?Can you seat the pellet with your fingernail without it hurting?
