Cheryl Liu- Hornady Public Relations

Grand Isle, Nebraska- Hornady Manufacturing will no longer produce the failed .17 Hornady Mach 2 cartridge. After extensive testing and reformulation Hornady feels that the cartridge cannot be loaded consistently enough for Hornady's standards.

Ms. Liu also said, "We have received countless complaints from customers about case splittings and Ruger's failure to produce a 10/17." Although there is a large aftermarket for the .17 Mach 2, too many producers have failed to grasp onto it. Quoting Ms. Liu, " We feel that the .17 HMR is just an all around better cartridge."

Hornady will continue to manufacture the .17 Mach 2 until November of 2007. Hornady has plans to sell all toolings and machiner associated with the Mach 2 to the English Company Eley.

Hornady has been an inavator in the bullet manufacturing industry for the several decades. While the .17 Mach 2 was not the success they hoped for they do hope their next project, the ".08 Legal Limit" will be a real boost to the shooting sports and Hornady sales.

Happy April fools everyone :) :) :) :)

I have a Marlin 917M2 on the way....you scared the hell out of me.....thought I was going to have to stock up on 1000's of rounds of ammo.

All is not lost. You can always pull the bullets from the 17 HMR and cram them in a 22 LR case and squeeze the neck with pliers to get some ready made .17HM2 ammo.

Congrats on your new gun

I have the 917 in HMR... Great gun. I found that it took a couple hundred rounds (maybe 400) to really get the gun where it was shooting the best. Also I found that over tightening the action screws would decreace accuracy...

Yes probably, but I think over tightening the action screws on any given gun without pillar bedding it is bad because over-time it can actually squish the wood a bit...

My buddy has a 917V HMR on the way as well (both should arrive early this week  )
So needless to say, next weekend is not going to be a very good weekend if you're a paper target. :sniper:

That was an evil trick. I just sold CyaN1de my Marlin. It's in the mail as we type. He probably kicked something really hard.
Having said that, it was a good one.:runaway:

I'm surprised noones talking about the new AR that uses a specially designed .223/5.56 rimfire cartridge and propriety magazine.

Word is it's been developed specifically for the Canadian market... Y'know to get around the five round limit on centerfire semi-auto rifles...

I just laundered the shorts I was wearing when I read it.... :puke:
