17HMR ammo on backorder everywhere?

At Lebaron they only have the gold tipped Remington for $20 a box (about $5 more per box than I'd like to pay). I think that I've bought out all the Federal that my local CT is going to stock as they've removed the sticker and spot for it on the shelf. I've got 4 boxes that I picked up at the range a couple weeks ago, but even they didn't have much on the shelf. Even Action Sports is out of stock. I'd like to find a deal on a 250 round box of 17 grainers somewhere...

Any one else find this odd? Is this in some way related to the ammo run in the US? Or is it just a bad time of year to buy ammo???

The ones I remember (not sure on the brand might be Federal though) was in the plastic clear container with an orange tint to it.

I don't have a .17 HMR but recall seeing them when I was looking at .22 ammo.
 
CTC in kemptville should have three boxes of federal left. I went in looking for some, they don't normally stock it apparently , so the woman ordered 4 boxes (minimum order) just for me :) . When I asked if she could get 7mm-08 she told me no, and that I should just shoot the same calibers as everyone else.
 
Our CT just got some more stock of federals after being out of stock for quite some time. Still $15.99/box which isnt tooooooooooo bad. As for HM2, I spotted some boxes at WSS in Lethbridge a couple weeks ago, and those were the first boxes of that ammo I have ever seen in my life, anywhere.

Ya I wish it was cheaper too. However the price was $15.99 a box at CT when I bought my .17 over a year ago, so I have never paid less than that here. The local gunshop had bricks for $200.00 last time I checked, hence the "not toooooo bad" comment. :)
 
was just in the USA, 50 rounds of 17 gr Hornady is 15 bones USD!!! the guy at the counter said somthing like "Obama has raised taxes on ammo by close to 500%"

no deals :( I even asked what if I buy 5000 rounds what would the discount be... he said no discount...

I can only find 17 gr red tipped Hornady in and around Winnipeg for 15 bones, they have remington for 20 but yikes !
 
lot's of assorted for around 15 bones around brandon,mb. too, but I almost crapped my drawers when I saw the Remington for $24.99 a box, I am not kidding...holy poop
