17HMR Hoppes bore snake bad experience

Actually, now that a couple of guys have brought up the subject of tight tolerances, it occurs to me that the manufacturing tolerances on the brass weights that these boresnakes use probably aren't very tight. For 20 bucks I don't think we can demand or expect high precision. Perhaps some are simply large enough to cause problems? Luck of the draw whether you get a small one that drops right through or a larger one that jams.

They crimp the brass weight to retain the cord, and it also looks like an adhesive is used. It's possible the crimp may oval the weight enough that it has zero clearance. I tried sanding it down a bit, but only removing the carbon particles would allow it to drop in. I'm going to try a carbon fibre rod pushing a solvent wetted q-tip and and see how that goes. I have various carbon fibre odds and ends from a wrecked RC airplane. Rods that measure .120 and couplers that you can use CA glue on.

Are the guys that are having problems getting .17 cal bore snakes thru their barrells shooting Savage rifles. They are known to too be less that smooth and load up with copper and powder fouling easily.:p

Mine's a CZ 453 varmint. Perhaps there are significant variances in manufacturing of the bore snake, and its most critical / apparent in small calibres. That rope is a lot to compress down through the chamber and pass through a 17 cal bore.

My .17 is a Savage...no problems either with excessive fouling or use of the Boresnake.

Griz take that piece of #### back to the store and get your money back.
