.17hmr optics

I have a 3-9x40 Redfield on mine and I have no complaints. Its clear and accurate, although I havent tried many shots out past 100 yards. Redfield makes a great scope for the money imo.

This problem always comes up when there is a request for scope suggestions;

"There is a huge discrepancy between what is useful for HUNTING and what is useful for PAPER."

I am primarily a hunter but also shoot paper for "little itty-bitty" groups...

Read through this thread and you will see two schools of thought... the hunters (gopher shooters) recommending a lower power range and suggesting that anything over 10-16X is a waste for HMR and then you have the paper shooters who will tell you that you will WANT/NEED a minimum of 24X on the top end if you really want tight groups at 100 yards+...

As a hunter, I want a scope that is not TOO HIGH on the low end... as a paper shooter, I want a scope that is not TOO LOW on the high end.

Thus I am recommending the 6-24X range... 6X is LOW enough for hunting (3X is better), 24X is high enough for paper groups (32X is better)...

So you see the dilemma if you want to do both... For HMR, 6-24X is the best of BOTH worlds (IMOAE)...

And I still recommend the Hawke Varmint SF 6-24X44mm, as an excellent choice.
