my marlin xt-17vr does not like the 20 grain ammo either but will print some impressive groups with the 17 grain stuff if I do my part. this is a target I fired at 50 yards when sighting in the rifle after mounting scope. the hole in the top center is the first shot, I then adjusted 40 clicks down and fired 4 more( the little group just right of center). my son and I were shooting old 308 brass off the silhouette stands at 100 yards.
