17hmr rifle options

With the cash you save on a Savage over a CZ, you can spend more on good glass, and if it's anything like mine, it'll shoot just as well.

This is very true if you're trying to stretch the dollar. I like the plastic-stocked 93s over the laminate or tactical-looking models. I think if you have the extra $100+ to spend dolling-up a Savage, you'd be better save an additional $100 and just get the CZ. Put the two side by side and you know right away they're two completely different classes of guns. Top to bottom/ muzzle to recoil pad...just a cut above.

Having owned both, I can say my CZ doesn't shoot any better (yet) so it isn't an accuracy question. As for the Marlin thing (that post seemed strange) I hope to get my first, and XT-22 in WMR soon. I haven't shot a Marin .17, nor do I know anyone who has.

Good luck with your decision..get both in your hands, ideally side-by-side....cycle the action, drop the mag out, look at the fit/finish/bluing etc. and I think you'll see why CZs enjoy the popularity they do.

I used to have a Marlin 917V, and could easily shoot 3/4" groups at 100 yards. I think it was execellent value for the $200 I paid for it and I should have kept it, but my friend who sold it to me asked if he could buy it back.
Now I'm thinking of a CZ 452 Varmint.

I just picked up a Marlin 917V - have not shot it yet. Hard to beat for the price, though - comes with two mags, heavy barrel, Weaver bases in the box. The action is a little stiff, but I think I missed some of that nasty packing grease when I was cleaning it.
Word on the street is that it is pretty much dead even accuracy wise with the Savage, and I payed the same for wood stock/heavy barrel as the Savage in synthetic/standard barrel.

Go with a savage..cant beat them for the price.I got a 93FV in 22WMR and really like . Lots of models to choose from and Boyds and a few other companies make nice after market stocks . I like the TR series but they dont make it in 22mag so I ordered the tacticool stock from Boyds for mine and used a
bushnell 3200 elite 3x9 .

I have a Savage Lam. SS Thumbhole in .17HMR and it's pretty accurate and i find needs a bit more scope then 3X9 for 200 yard gopher shots, otherwise a 3X9 Bush. 3200 would be ideal. I actually use a Bush. 6500 4.5-30 on mine as i don't mind the weight. I would buy a CZ in a NY minute, but think that the Cooper would be the ultimate .17 HMR.

I disagree, with the limited range of a rimfire a cheap 3x9 is all that is required

I disagree with your disagreement. Greater than 9 power comes in handy when punching paper with the HMR. Currently I have a 3200 3-9 on mine, and it's not quite enough for precision shooting at longer ranges. It would be fine for quick target acquisition when going for varmints, but it's not enough for serious bench shooting.

Previously I had a 6-18 on the HMR which was a little much, for the shooting I do, a 4-12 or 5-15 seems like it would be right around the sweet spot.

I have a Savage 93R17 Btvss, I have only good things to say about it shoots great out of the box. I have added a folding bipod, and a 6x24 42mm scope.

For target 50m. is best but if there is no wind you can go easily a 100m.
