Just for grins I have bet.
The 17HMR will survive as it is touch and go with the 22 mag depending on your purpose/game/shooting but is the same price making it attractive to shoot. I think its future is secure.:D
The 17HM2 is doomed. I don't see the benifits over the 22 considering the 17HMR is available and the HM2 is twice the cost at least of the 22 LR. There can be only one and it's not the HM2.
Any other thoughts.

I would be into the 17HM2 but the ammo is so much more then 22lr and not that much more fun.

I've never shot the 22mag but I know some hunters love it as a great round for bigger varmint. I know many think the 22mag is a better hunting round then the 17HMR because it has a heavier bullet but I think science says they both will do the job.

My opinion is the 17HMR is best round out of all of them, the most accurate and good out to 200m. The only problem I have with 17HMR is that it is loud and the ammo cost is almost the same as .223 so why not make the jump?

I posted a thread on Rimfire central back in the summer about how much I liked the .17 hmr and how I hoped it would be around a long time. There was a lot of replies and all agreed that the .17 hmr has excellent performance and it will be around a long time. As the replies went on they turned to the .17hm2 and the .22, most agreed that the future of the .17hm2 will be limited. Not exactly scientific but a good a good cross-section of rimfire shooters.
wcmd.

Although the 17HM2 will never reach the popularity of 17HMR (nothing will ever come close to the 22LR), I don’t think it is fair to say it is doomed. It has a lower report that the Mag and the HMR, and is a great gopher calibre for the 50-100 yard range. Plus if more people would buy a Mach 2, the ammo price would go down.

Ok Gun Nutz, do your part to lower ammo costs!
