I didn't do anything to it-it does have a heavy trigger but once you are used to it it's okay-I use it as my long distance (75-150m) gopher rifle-usually with a bipod later in the gopher season.

Have a older savage pre accu trigger. Wood stock. Heavy barrel. Absolutely love it. Extremely accurate. I use it for squirrel crows and rabbits. Flat out death on coons opossums and skunks to

You could look for the 77/17 Ruger, they made them but were discontinued. This is mine in a Boyd's stock. As I heard about the rugers, it took some measure of rounds, but keeps getting more accurate.

My 77/17 would barely hold 1" at 50 yards, it was the least accurate of my 17mach2 rifles by far. With the Green Mountain barrel installed, it shot 1/2" at 50 yards.

This one wasn't great to begin with, but the more I shoot it, the more accurate it becomes. I don't think it will ever be super accurate, but I bought it when they were being cleared out, think I paid 340 brand new. Good enough for the gophers it kills. If I want to really reach out, I have a 17 hornet, little louder, but unbelievably accurate.

I currently have 3 rifles in .17M2. A Sako P04 with a wood stock, a Cooper M57 Jackson squirrel, and a Kimber K17 SVT with a laminate stock. The Kimber is the most accurate followed by the Cooper and then the Sako. I hunt (gophers, squirrels, Ravens and grouse) with the Cooper because it is very light and has of the synthetic stock. All are very accurate with the Kimber shooting well under 0.5" at 50yds. All shoot better with Eley ammo. I have a healthy stash of Eley but I'm trying to save it and almost exclusively use the Hornady for hunting and playing around. I, too would like to see Eley make another run of ammo. Regarding other rifles, I recently tried to order a Volquartsen. It looked like the order was placed and then a few months later they refunded my deposit and said they quit making them. It's a great cartridge but sure looks like new rifles are becoming rare.
