Hey guys~really feeling the temptation to get a 17M2, not sure what I'd do with it...but that kind of "common sense" question really hasn't stopped me before. :) I'd love to test the waters with a inexpensive H&R or something, but they don't make those in that chambering anymore...from what I can tell.

Would love to see some pics...

I believe Savage and maybe CZ are the only companies still producing rifles in 17M2. I found a Marlin on the shelf last year and snapped it up. I bought a Savage a few years ago and when it comes to shooting gophers it is almost like cheating and my daughter laid claim to the Savage. The Marlin seemed to need a "break in" to achieve the same accuracy as the savage but now you can't miss with either. Now I keep on the look out for old inventory rifles in 17M2.
I don't know how to post pictures but can email them to you if you like.
The Savage has a Plastic stock done up in winter camo(stock only) and wears a Leupold 6x32 and the Marlin is in its factory wood stock and wears a Bushnell 3200 5-15X50 that makes gophers and golf balls really big at 100 yards.

Thanks for the replies. Yes, I'm a Savage guy...so I can easily see myself going that route. I'll need to fight-off the urge to just get an HMR again. Should be easy if I walk by the ammo shelf first and survey the price tags!

Wholesale Sports still has a couple of Savages listed in the Canadian Access to Firearms. The item numbers are 207282, and 213340.They are on closeout for $249, and $199.

Thanks for the info, but I see no link to "Canadian Access to Firearms", searched those item numbers=no results found....even searched the word "closeout" and looked at all the Savages being offered~nothing. I'm not having THAT rough a Friday am I? lol

Canadian Access to Firearms is a newspaper that doesn't appear online. You won't find the item numbers on the Wholesale web site, because they don't list discontinued items. That is why I included the item numbers. If you want one, you need to call Wholesale, and give them the item number, so that they can see if they still have the gun in stock.

Do any of you have that Marlin 17M2 that was on sail last year? Can't remember who had them, think it was a stainless laminate model...? Damn...this 17M2 thing is bugging me.. lol Think I need one.

that was delselins. he had twenty of them and sold them all within a few days. there is a good demand for these guns.

You definitely should buy an HM2... I have three and overall, like them better than my Hummers. I have two Savage MKII's and a CZ 452. HM2 is the coolest and most accurate rimfire caliber there is. It is the BEST squirrel caliber... PERIOD. It is also very nice for rabbits/hares and only slightly less for grouse (if you are not the scattergun sort). You will not regret the purchase.

Hey Hoyt~thanks for the reply. I'm thinking about picking-up a Savage, though I'm not 100% sure about whether or not to go the heavy barrel route. I do like the Rimfire Hunter stock Boyd's makes, my 94FV wears once. I don't think Savage offers the Mark II FVSS in 17M2 anymore, would have been nice to have one gun with a stainless barrel! lol

Hey... Stubblejumper gave me a heads up that Wholesale Sports had some MKII BVSS HM2's in stock on clearance (as he did with you above)... I jumped on the phone and nailed one... turns out that it was a Pre-Accu model (Non-E)... the stainless gun was nice... the trigger was freakin' horrible! It has a Rifle Basix trigger now... the black and stainless gun above is actually a Hummer... but the HM2 BVSS is going to be a copy of that gun... I should have it back in a week from the smith... I sent it out for some work... I'll post new pics when it comes back.
