There doesn't seem to be any love for the 17s on this site

I was just doing some air gunning with my .177 and realized I don't have a 17 cal centerfire and I think I need one (early xmas gift)
Now I'm faced with a very hard choice. 17 rem 17 fireball 17 hornet or any of the wildcats

What is your favorite 17 centerfire and why?

I do handload and am just looking for a fun plinker I already have varmint rifles

Hmmm, well in BC a .17HMR can be used on game birds and works nicely on turkeys, whereas the regulations ban centrefires for game bird hunting. So, most guys buy a .22 or .17HMR and use it for birds and target shooting at the range. The smallest popular centrefire here is the .223, for the range and some guys are using it at shorter ranges on deer...though I'd go at least .243 for deer. That's why wee centrefires aren't popular in BC, though I know nothing of the regs in Ontario.

I love my 17's. I have 2 700 SPS's, one Varmint and the other regular barrel. Both have had the stocks changed out to wood. Love em both, gophers hate em. Fun to shoot, no recoil and you can see your hits.

Also have two 17 mach 2's (one Marlin, one CZ) and a 17 HMR (CZ). Love em all. Tack drivers they are.
