18.5" Norinco

I have been looking at a lot of SKS lately and they all seem to have full 20" barrels. My SKS was purchased 2 years ago from SIR and has a 18.5" barrel does anyone else have one?
I also cant find any reference to a 18.5" on Simonov.net only a 16" paratrooper, maybe someone should update them.

nope. my norinco is 20" . my bayo is total 15" long so is your bayo shorter?

One of my SKS's has an 18.5" barrel.

Check your serial #, if it starts with 040 you may have a problem.

The 040's are the rifles Lever brought in a few years ago with the threaded receivers and pinned barrels. There is an "adapter" to mate the barrel to the receiver. Some of the barrels were improperly pinned resulting in head space problems while firing.

i had one

I had one it was fine. yeah it has serial numbers started with 040 soemthing like tht butthe pinned bareel problem was fixed by. I think it was a non military version.

I measured the barrel from the rear end of the chamber, 18.5".
Yes the serial number does start with 040.
Its 99.9% reliable though and the cases look fine and its reasonably accurate so the headspace seems to be all right.

Mine works fine too, but I keep an extra sharp eye on the barrel/adapter joint.

I've got one of these, it goes bang every time, and is accurate enough too.

My hunting SKS is an 18.5 one. Love it to death...light and accurate.

i had it for huning too but i find it very prone to rust when you take it into the bush. The military one is a bit better but not much. I love huting with the sks.
