18.6 inch AR barrels with integrated muzzle brake/flash hider

I emailed Faxon when they first came out with their integral muzzle brake barrels to ask about a 18.6" barrel. They told me the did have any orders yet from any of their Canadian distributors. I would only be able to get one through them and they won't be producing them for the US market. This was a couple months ago when I got the response.

Here is hoping....

Brilliant idea, This would be enough for me to get in line for a modern sporter, or even just buy for future builds.

I think something pretty general would keep most people interested until purchase.

Faxon gunner type profile
Black
5.56/.223 caliber 1:8 twist
Mid or Rifle length gas port
18.6 total length (16.6" barrel, 2" muzzle device)
Flash hider over muzzle brake for not having side concussion
No open fork type flash hider to avoid "ringing" also to avoid snagging
Something with similar design, but better aesthetics than an A2, (like a Surefire socom closed tine flash hider)

This would likely be a safe setup. I'd preorder in a heartbeat

This would be a winner for me as well. Some really good points here. Would definitely be a catalyst for a atrs MS build...

Exactly dude you put it in words perfectly. Thatd definitely be the most popular barrel for ALOT of us.

A brake can be very useful in competition for facilitating rapid followup shots.
Never had the need for a flash hider.

Yeah - practically, most folks here can get all the benefit of a shorter overall length by just screwing a thread protector onto a 18.6 barrel. An integral flash hider, in particular seems odd to me, as we're (generally) not shooting at night, and you lose ~2" of rifling, and the associated velocity.

Now - if someone just wants the shortest possible NR barrel, and doesn't care for the aesthetic of a blank muzzle - all the power to them.

I think if they do go through with this they could just do a poll and see if a flash hider or muzzle brake would be more popular...if there was only one i would buy either, but i would prefer a flash hider, for the following reasons:

1) actually does mitigate recoil better than a bare muzzle, and i can achieve fast follow up shots with a 5.56 quickly without a brake.
2) i do shoot when it gets a bit darker, and muzzle flash is a real thing.
3) the ignorant concussion of a muzzle brake is absolutely unacceptable at an indoor range or when shooting in close proximity to others (for me, not in general)

Those are a few of the reasons i would PERSONALLY prefer a flash hider cut 18.6 barrel vs a brake. HOWEVER if they made the brake compatible with some sort of blast mitigation device like the surfire blast warden or similar, i would be all over that; but, lets not get ahead of ourselves lol I'll take what i can get.

THAT is what I was contemplating, and what would truly be the cherry on top. Matching threads for the Warden would be a huge WIN.
