OK, I know it's probably a 16 guage, but an associate asked me to park an 18 guage Cooey in my safe.

Am I a dumbass, or has there ever been a commercial 18 guage shell???

Yes there is such a thing as an 18 gauge but it's very rare.

Here's what Cartridges of the World has to say about the 18 gauge:

"This European gauge was loaded for use in shotguns manufactured by Braun & Bloem, Kynoch and Gustave Genschow. United Metallic Cartridge produced a small batch for use in an experimental Browning shotgun. These shells were 1-7/8" long and sometimes featured a 20 gauge headstamp. There were also pinefire version of the 18 gauge. This gauge is a .637 bore."

I've never heard of an 18 gauge Cooey. It's probably a 16.

used to be used by the police way back when so that people couldnt use the polices shot guns against them for instance a person gets put in jail and their visitor brings his own ammo and steals a cops shotty, recipe for dead cops. now if the shot gun was a different gauge than what was available to the public any sbuck in shells would either be too big or too small, thus fixing the problem
