Hi,

Is there a source for those in Canada, or are we limited to the crappy 10 round mags?

Thanks

(oops, Mods, feel free to move to Pistols forum)

Not trying to be a doubting Thomas here, but what is the significant difference between an 18 round mag that has been pinned to ten and an actual ten round mag.

I'm wondering the same thing. My 10 round mags seem to feed my SP01 just fine... I'd prefer we could legally use an unpinned 18 round mag, but preferences aside, how is the 18 round mag better than the 10 round mag?

While the 10 round mags from CZ work perfectly, There is the concern that because they are a 2 part mag, and the joining is located up inside the pistol, there is the possibilty that as they wear they could separate and not drop free. Some 10 round mags are constructed so that the forces exerted during a reload are similar to those required to dissassemble the mag. CZ mags do not fall into that category, but the concern continues. Also because the original mag is a full steel body, it may be more durable and resitant to breakage from normal droppage than the half plastic 10 round mags. thirdly, just as a point in fact, the original mags are 19 round mags.

and as another option, tanfoglio mags. I'm playing with their mags, and have ordered some basepads that should match the overall length of the real SP01 mags. This will give me a 10 round mag, with the increased length for ease of reload and the basepad to increase durability. It appears that the Tanfoglio mags are built to a heavier spec than the CZ mags.

for me, it has purely to do with the force required to lock a mag in - a factory "10 round" mag is extremely tight (at least the ones I have), and since I don't like to really bang the mag in, I sometimes fail to lock it (same problem with 10 round Glock mags). I found that mags which begun their lives as more than 10, and where then limited to 10 to comply with the various laws, tend to lock in easier, since there will still be lots of room in the spring to compress when the top round is pushed down a bit against the bottom of the slide. That's all. Anyhow, I got my answer(s) here and via PMs, thanks all!

I haven't, I was just looking into it (i.e. IF I was to get one, COULD I get the nice mags - I had no end of problems with the old mags, so I wouldn't want to try that again). I had my sights on the Tanfoglio L, but other factors prevented that purchase, hehe. I'll just putt along with my Norinco for now.
