180gr 30-30 and BL-C(2)?

A buddy at work gave me a hundred 180gr .308 Hornady round nose bullets and my Lyman's doesn't go past 170gr'ers. Does anyone have any loading data with that weight? I also have 2lbs of BL-C(2) sitting around collecting dust.

Most 180 gr bullets are designed for larger calibers than the 30-30. Standard bullets for 30-30 are 150 and 170 gr. You may have problems with overall length also with the 180 also since they are longer and the crimp groove probably not in the right spot either. The 180s may sit too deep into the case to leave you enough room for powder to give you respectable speed. If you don't have a larger round to use them in maybe somebody will either buy them or trade with you for a bullet better suited for the 30-30.
 
I share Iceman's concerns but if you can load them to the right length, here are some loads for 180 grain lead and jacked bullets in the 30-30 and 30-30 AI. Couldn't fimd anything for BLC2

The crimp groove is in the wrong spot for the 30-30 (low on the bullet as you said). If you insert the bullet into the case so the crimp is in the groove, the round will probably be too long to either cycle through the rifle or chamber. If you insert to get the right OAL, you loose too much powder space to get enough velocity to reliably have the bullet expand at any kind of distance. They are designed to expand at velocities found in a larger round ie 30-06. 308 etc. Most of the 150-170 gr FP are designed for 30-30 applications. approach loads with caution.
 
Don't have data for BLC2 but shot lots of 180gr RN with 30gr/Win 748.Fed + grouped fine...........Harold
