....................

Anyone else having magazine issues with this rifle? It seems when i press on the bolt release the mag drops out of the gun? I can also wiggle mags out even when they are properly seated inside the magwell.... The gun is brand new as I just received it this morning.

Also tested with loaded mag.

Here are the pictures:

What is gouging the rear of the magazine well? A protruding rivet?

Thanks Tiriaq, I was going to ask the same question...

Mine is in the 4000’s and has no issues with any mags... all lock solidly and are tight. No was I can pull any of them without pression the button and all fall freely.

cutting the slot approx .025" deeper.

do you happen to remember what the slot depth was before or after cutting?

i have read the mag release pocket is supposed to be 5/32 (0.15625)" deep from the "main" face of the magwell on an ar-15, does anybody know what this dimension is supposed to be since there is no spec for these rifles? unless we get a stag drawing i guess the only thing we will know is if they are all made the same, so maybe a few people could measure theirs? i couldnt find a blueprint for the mag catch itself anybody have this?

Mine was .140 deep, tops
I think I cut .035 and I'm at .172" now. (plus or minus the accuracy of a cheap caliper)

And, at that depth it is still not as far into the magwell as the DPMS, but works great.

Low 900s serial.

Mag catches are not stepped. The pad that it rests on (with the pin sticking out) and the pad that goes into the slot are the same plane.

One other point of interest, Stag magwells are about .010" bigger (looser) than DPMS, so no one should have problems with mags sticking.

Yup....mine is 0.144 deep. Ser number in 900's. Got Norgon Ambi catch. Problem solved...no grinding. Now bolt hold open works too. Ordered from Nordic Marksman...great service. They on sale now for 104...ouch- but compare to 140. Also ordered a new spring....the one they sent is longer and stiffer than the Stag Oem one. Holds much tighter.
