...

I was thinking of 223 Wylde thats why i got confused. I am unfamiliar about the 224 (obvi) big difference, almost looks closer to a 22-250 than a 223.
Thanks for the explanation and pics

Every time I see .224 Valkyrie I think... female warrior with angel wings with .224 on breastplate lol

Sorry random. Had to say that somewhere eventually!

Ps. Beautiful build!!

So far I'm limited to factory ammo. I have another rifle in 224 Valkyrie I've been shooting for a while and can honestly say that the Federal 90gr SMK loads shoot unimpressively in a 1 in 7 twist. The 60gr NBT ammo shot REALLY nice.

This build being a coyote rifle I plan on sticking with the 60gr NBT for now.

Federal just released a 80.5gr Gold Medal Berger Hybrid ammo that I would like to try once it's available. I think the 1 in 7 would be best suited for a mid weight load like this.

Since you ordered a 1 in 6.5 twist I think you'll have better luck with the heavy stuff.

I got the ammo I have from SFRC a while back but when I need more I'm just going to order it from IRG. Better selection and usually a shorter wait time than ordering through a dealer here.

You really ought to start hand loading for it. I bet the 75gr. Amax would run exceptionally well in a 7 twist barrel.

To bad they discontinued the amax. The amax are absolutely DEVISTATING on little critters. Mashed a muskrat at 250 with an 80 gr amax and it skinned the poor b@st@rd. Smacked a coyote at 350 and it did a barrel roll with no exit wound. Both shot with a 22-250 doing 3250 fps. Insane terminal performance with a complete energy dump.

Isn't the ELD-M it's replacement? Probably very similar terminal performance since it should be built similarly with a thin jacket and core that wasn't designed to expand or hold together.

What twist rate is your 250? Mine is 14 twist, I wouldn't even consider an 80gr for my rifle. I'm just getting ready to start loading for it and am planning on using 50gr V-max or similar, hoping for close to 4000fps. Should have some impressive terminal when I get a chance to get out in the hay field with my new call.
This is my first 22-250 and I've only had it a month so haven't seen what it will do to a critter yet thanks to our cold snap that doesn't want to end.

Did the A-Max not just get rebranded as the new Eld-Match?

Supposedly Hornady changed the composition of the polymer the tip is made from but other than that they're essentially the same thing.

That's how I understood it anyways. I'm open to correction if I'm wrong.

EDIT: cr5 kinda beat me to it...

Not quite. The eldm are a bit different and the jacket cross section is a little thicker. I haven't shot the 22 cal eldm yet but in not impressed by anything eld in 7mm or 30 cal.

For cr5 I have a 7 twist 22-250 28" shilen select match stainless prefit on a savage 10 action. One of the most accurate rifles I've shot.

Isn't the 88gr ammo that Hornady puts out supposed to shoot well in a 1:7? Might be worth a try. Nice rig. I need to put together a Modern Sporter at some point. Should probably finish my Stag 10 first, haha. Too many irons in the fire...
