1843 Springfield

I might have access to an 1843 Springfield rifle. This rifle was supposedly used by a civil war soldier that escaped to Ontario. He sought shelter and traded the gun for food and lodging.

The stock has smoke damage and there is considerable pitting.

Would anyone have an idea as to what this gun would be worth?

1843 dated Flintlock Springfield Musket. U.S. Model 1840. 8,600 made.
Vast majority of 1840's were converted to percussion in the 1850's by gov. orders.
Barrel should be 42 inches. Fully stocked, 3 bands. Perhaps inspectors stamps visible on wood, and 3 usual Springfield stamps at rear of barrel. Springfield flintlock stamped SPRINGFIELD 1843 and Eagle over U.S.
If as described in good or better cond $2000-$3000 or up.
If shortened, sporterized, converted/percussion, rusted out, stamps gone etc $100-$500.
Note -if converted percussion but all else good,original still a $1000+ musket.
I own a couple 1795 US Springfield muskets battlefield pick ups, War of 1812. 1 all correct the other. A Stoney Creek farmer had a blacksmith convert it chope it all down for rabbit hunting. Par for the course. PS both have Initials scratched in wood, a US soldier habit I believe.
Yours might have seen action in US Mexican War or US Civil War. You will have to find out!
