I going to get a new 1851 colt navy replica from marstar but I don't know which one, I really like the brass frame confederate type in .44 but I keep hearing about frame stretch should I get the steel frame or the brass, I don't plan on shooting every day but I would like to keep it for awhile, any info would be great, thanks.

the problem I found with Colt perc pistols was that if you use a heavy charge, the barrel wedge crushes and the barrel loosens. As long as you stick with target loads, I think you can shoot them for a long time. I would not worry about the brass frame.
The problem with the barrel key is that it has a deep groove down the center for the retaining screw head and that allows the two sides to collapse inwards.

I have one of the pietta 1851 .44s with the brass frame, I shot it for a couple of seasons in cowboy action with no frame stretching, I think you would have to shoot them an awful lot to stretch the frame to where it is unserviceable. thats my 2 cents worth anyway.
