1853 enfield

Recently acquired what appeared to be a good condition 3-Band Tower locked Enfield 1853 pattern rifle. Problem with identification though as its' rifled bore is .62 not the usual .58. Decent rifling -not worn out and wonder if any info out there on a possible variant to the standard pattern or as a contract piece for another market. Thought possibly the 1851 Pattern but again the bore is wrong. Thoughts-comments please.

I'm no expert but if it's a replica it should be .58. If original the proof marks might give you a clue. Also, are you measuring to the lands or the grooves?

The piece is definitely an original and trying the bore again-a .577 Snider cartridge drops in to the neck so I think .62 is pretty close.

The P51 has multi groove rifling. Bring the gun with you to the rendezvous this weekend and I will try to remember to bring some plug guages with me
