1863 Zouave w round ball

Anyone out there have one and shoot RB with it? What size are you using and getting good results?
Mine is an original with a fairly rough barrel.

.775 RB with a with a .010 patch will give very decent results. For minie balls a .478 conical is needed.

It is a .58 cal, so one would be too big and the other rather small

I think his numbers should read .575 and .578. But to really know what you need for best results you should determine your specific bore size.

I shoot mostly patched round ball in my repro Enfield musketoon. Good accuracy with that.
Better than what I can get out of minie balls

I`ve double patched .562 balls and got decent kind of results, but very high point of impact.
I get ok ish results with Minies, still high unless they are very heavy, then they don`t really group and i don`t care to shoot them much. Wouldn`t want to get hit by one either

Rough bore w/ your double patched .562" diameter round balls-
Is/are the patches coming out cut or frayed or burnt from the rough bore after firing?

If so,hand lap the bore to smooth it up.

Loading different patch thickness' & lube may make a difference.

The Zouave bores twist rate should shoot hollow base minie balls.
