1866 chassepot rifle

Going to be condition dependent.
I have one with shortened barrel and stock. Needs sight work. Could be a shooter. Can't see that it would be worth much more than a hundred bucks as a project rifle. I could see one in very nice as issued condition bringing a grand.

Is it the original 1866 "needle gun" for paper cartridges? Or has it been converted to Gras system for metallic cartridges? Most were converted to Gras in the 1870s.
We don't see many of either for sale in Canada. In the US I see them advertised in the usd800 range for a solid rifle in good, functional condition.
No conversion, orignal!
I'm not a prospective buyer but would appreciate pictures if you have any to put in thread.
In fact it was a deal that that i was trying to close with somebody who had one, with the bayonet, i just closed it for 1100$ ill post pictures soon!
Nice Gras shown here. Too bad there have not been many for sale of late, would love to add a Gras or Chassepot to my French rifle collection.
In the old days there were always 2 or 3 for sale at p&s. Something will turn up eventually, I’m sure. There are actually a fair number of them in Canada in collector’s hands and patience pays off
