I have recently been aquainted with an 1871 carbine in 43 mauser?? It is in great shape and I have some original ammo for it. Any thoughts on what it is worth???? It is a single shot marked 1876 1877. Any thoughts would be apreciated. Thanks
 
Is all the orig. wood there? if so, depending on condition....I've seen them go for $450.00 +....the carbine in it's orig. form is a dandy little gun. Most of them you see have some wood missing(sporterized?) and value drops way off,IMHO!.
 
As mentioned above, if the original wood is there, it likely be in the $450+ range, also depending on the bore. Mine is in great shape, but is sporterized. I recall paying around $325 for it.
 
I don't need photos to tell you that if it is original and all numbers matching and has not been refinished....and has an excellent bore...it is worth a lot more than $450.00! I have seen them go for $1,400.00 on Salters site. I also saw one there for $1,150.00 which had the ears ground off of the front sight guard. Now it might take a while to get top dollar but that is the range they are in...in my opinion. Collectors will also be interested in the unit markings and which arsenal made it. This is the second patent of Paul Mauser. Shooting them is a blast. I shoot mine with a full case of FG under the 340 grain cast bullet. MT Chambers Supply....has the bullets already lubed. I also use SR4759 as a smokeless load at 18 grains.
 
I take my post back...if member Dantforth has an idea on value I would go with his figures as he is more knowledgeable on Mil. antiques then I!!!
 
well no one is knowledgable about the gun in question so none of the guesstimates can be of assistance. This is a guessing exercise with out pics.
somewhere between 75 dollars and 1400 USD ?
