Madness I say. Go to the Gunshow with an 71/84 full wood to sell...come out with a converted Single shot action and bbl.
Still have the rifle...needed the washer and screw.
The action on these old mausers sure are a thing to behold... take out the washer / screw and tell my GF to hide the rest, or...light up my son to make a take-down 12 Ga.

He has a forge...is case hardening that difficult, LOL. ( I'm sure it's tougher than shoe leather )
But...this is an opportunity to play with a hand tooled piece of Teutonic art...with no conscience bothering me?

Throw it and run, or...?

The action is already case hardened all over. Not sure if you could fit a 12 gauge on the receiver but 20 gauge did occur to me on mine. Or I could mail you a hardwood stick for use on your tomatoes and you could mail me your action and we could call it a straight trade ;)
