Well its on its way will give a range report when it gets here and a comparison to my 1867 rolling block pistol . should be a little longer cartridge I'm told about a 50-50 the 67 is about a 50-25 then it will be time to do a chamber cast cut down some 50-70 brass and inside neck ream.

Were in a rare club DEZ the guys that own these puppys in Canada.
I only know of one other fellow from the youkon has one and a 1871 owner wont part with there gun! ;)

Nice gun...weren't most of these chambered orig. for the rem. 50(M71 Army)...300gr. bullet...25 grs. of black? Anyhow, readers interested may want to know that they go for $1200 and up to over $2000 on the US auction sites. The case for that ammo is .875" long and can be made from 50/70 cases avail. from Starline.
 
I know Of 2 others Dixie gun works has one for sale the other I'll have to look up. these are easier to bring across the border because they are on the FRT table the FRT report can be printed off by a verifier and faxed to the seller to put in a envelope marked Canada customs and there should not be any problems here's hoping I'll let you Know if I have any trouble getting mine across.

Yes Ben you're correct but I am told that some were either converted or chambered for the 50-50 carbine round as well I paid over 2000.00 for mine because of condition
 
Some were converted to the 50 70 as well because that Brass was used in the buffalo Rifles on the plains back then and was more common.

Heres a picture of mine with a new 10 inch 50 70 chambered barrel.
The orignal 8 inch barrel was altered to 50 70 as well but the rifleing was so worn we had to put in a new barrel.
Its a friken tack driver now and would kill 3 donkeys standing side by side :D

300 gr bullet/25 grs BP

Thats sounds a little more reasonable! Got an article in BPCN on shooting the .50 Navy pistol. Must look it up ....

Well here is a pic of my 1867 navy and some of my cartridges the bullets are sized .512 and loaded with 20gr Pyrodex pistol with a 50 cal felt under the bullet.

It hurts a little! but its a good kinda hurt :D
I load the 50 70 case almost full of pyrodex then a wad then a glob of lube then press in a RD ball 50 cal.
Makes a nice ragged hole 1.5 x 5 shot group at 25 yds

They converted these from the short navy 50 cal to 50 70 to use on the plains for Buffalo so as the orignal barrel was worn out shooting 50 70 im not the frist person to do this. ;)

And its fun! most guys are frightened of it tho HaHaHa :D
 
There is also an 1865 these had no trigger guard and were rim fire there is a debate as to whether the 67's were just 65's converted to center fire or completely new the 71 has a improved grip and a one inch longer barrel made from 1872-1888 total quantity approx. 6000 plus and is referred to as the army model. always ask when buying the 71's if they are rifled there are a number of smooth bores I have seen for sale. The 67 of mine has surprised me as it is very accurate

Looks like it's worth every penny. Great case colors..A piece that well cared for should be nice on the inside too. Have fun.
 
I know at one time reproductions were being made in .22 , 357 mag, and I think 22 hornet. Pretty sure that it was Navy Arms that was producing them but I might be mistaken on that.

They were even reasonably priced way back when but now that they are discontinued they are hard to find and the price is near $1000 usually. I know I would sure love to get ahold of at least one or two thou. Would go really nice with the rolling block rifles that I shoot!
 
Well she cleared customs today all together a good experience . I found out which border Xing It went to Toronto customs gave them a call told them I had a antique pistol coming into the country gave them the tracking # and told the lady that there should be a envelope marked Canada customs on the package and inside should be the FRT summary stating its antique status . she took my name and PH # and made a note in the system to call me if it wasn't there . they called me this morning to let me know it had cleared and that everything was OK.
 
Well it arrived today and its every bit as good as described still in original chambering bore nere mint just can't wait to try.

I feel a new antique bear defense thread coming!LOL.

That is a beautiful pistol and certainly a very sound investment! You are gonna need a rifle, bandolier and holster to go with that eh!
