I would appreciate some advice as to where to obtain some replacement parts and a ballpark value for a recent "Barn-find": covered in dust and lint in a closet, but apparently unused for many decades. Militaria are not my forte so I post this request for information.
As noted it is a Mark III and with single band, half stock, 5 lands rifling and 19.25" barrel so is the Cavalry model. It also has 2 opposing large-head screws about 2" ahead of the lock plate in the fore end that retained the leather sight cover, which is missing.
The firing pin is missing as is the trap door in the brass butt plate. Also the rear cross-bolt retaining the lock plate is broken but still in place. The bore is rough but I have seen worse ones that shot pretty well. Otherwise all seems functional. There is precious little finish left on the metal but the wood finish is good with no splits or significant damage.
On the right side of the stock is the circular ENFIELD stamp with R M at the top and outside the cartouche, below it is a large number 1 stamp. On the left side of the stock are several stamps including a large A, below which is what appears to be a number 8 then below that a double side by side rectangular stamp that I cannot decipher yet.
I realize pictures would be helpful but I can't seem to post them here, although I could send to a personal email. I am particularly interested in what the various stamped insignia might tell us.
