i am looking for parts and info on a 1873 44 wcf saddle ring carbine smooth bore. anybody got any suggestions. thanks in advance.

If you read up on the Entertainment Industry at the time, trick shooters and the like used a lot of smoothbore rifles with shot loads for their trick shooting demonstrations.

That's one possible explanation.

Seen it mentioned in several books and articles wrt folks like Annie Oakley, and such.

Lots of off-the-shelf shot loads available for the 44-40.

Spend the money on a letter from the Cody Museum. They may be able to tell you the original configuration as well as when and to whom it was shipped.

Can't help with parts.

Cheers

I have gotten replacement parts for an original 1873 from Winchester Bob (Google). I don't know if he ships to Canada, though, so you may have to have the package shipped to a friend in the US who can then ship it to you. These will be repro parts, but they fit in an original '73.

Are there British proofs on the gun?

Due to easier purchase rules for "smooth-bores" (shotgun certificate), many rifled firearms (up to and including machineguns) had the rifling carefully reamed out from @ the 1930's till the late 1980's.

So it's quite possible that it once resided in the UK, and the owner only had a shotgun certificate.

I have been looking for a couple years and they are hard to come by in Canada. You see them all the time on Gunbroker in the U.S. but you can't get them into Canada.
