Hey guys, i just bought a Pietta 1873 SAA Deluxe Brunita, beautiful gun. Anyways the thing hits very low and very left. I know how to bring it up but how the hell do i sight left and right. Thanks in advance for any replies

How much left?

Also I hate to bring it up but I found that when I mistakenly tried to learn to shoot it with my hand up high enough that my pinky was resting on the front strap my own SAA's shot way off to the left as well and I had to twist my hand around the grip to a rather outlandish angle.

Then I tried it the way I was supposed to hold it with my pinky under the butt end of the grip and the web of my hand across the back strap just sitting low on the upper curve around the "neck". The gun perked up and shot neatly on the center. from there I just filed down the front blade to bring the POA to the POI.

If this isn't the case and you're holding it correctly then it typically requires turning the barrel in the frame to move the front blade. And when you're close a little filing of the rear notch for the fine tuning isn't a bad idea. Especially if you want to use the gun for cowboy action shooting. As delivered the sights are fine for slower paced bullseye work. But for faster use it's nice to have a touch of extra light between the blade and the sides of the notch.

Hi, as we use the same range, perhaps we can meet up and observe your shooting and provide feedback? I have a Pietta 1873 arriving next week and will be testing it.

I have a couple of Pietta BP revolvers and they have all shot POA.

Lots of variables at play, so best to eliminate the human factor before working on the metal.

Cheers

If it was a war against the western allies it would have ended differently, Ivan won the war. But a win is a win, no ifs ands or buts.

I was shooting my SAA 44-40 with a friend and he laughed that I hit 2 out of 12 steels with it. Haha, he loaded it and hit zero! Man did that gun suck!

Well not really. I realise that the trigger on the SAA is light and my trigger finger was entirely at fault. Got back to fundamentals and both of us had the revolver hitting the target.

Perhaps this would work for you as well?
