I just accuired this lever action 38-40 from a gentlemen who now has no use for it. He said he was sure all the pieces were in the box, but i am missing atleast one, maybe two.

This is what i all have. misc parts in the bag.

This is the only picture of another action i could find.

Note the linking arms that go from the bolt, down to the lever, and back up to the back of the frame. I have the two arms (one per side) that go from the bolt to the lever. but i DONT have the one (or two) that go from the lever to the back of the frame.

Does anyone know what this part is called? Any one an 1873 guru out there?

And what do you guys think, a good find or no?

Thanks everyone!

I have no parts for you but it is clear that you like challenges! I think that that was an excellent find! Good luck in your search.

Wow that's hurtin!! Good score though. Thats going to be pretty hard to find some parts for it but if it was free then its not a big deal. Even if you couldn't find parts for it, that would be a cool wall hanger for the fireplace. Its great to see some fantastic rifles trying to be put back into action.

EDIT: Just checked Numrich they have lots of parts for it.

What you are missing are the "toggle links" the "heart" of the 1873 and 1876 lever action locking mechanism. There should be two sets - a right side and a left side - each consisting of two pieces which form a single "toggle". Unless they are in the box and not shownn in your pictures - you will also need two flat springs - a finger lever spring and a carrier lever spring. Can't see from the picture if the brass carrier block is in the reciever or not. Also while not essential to its gun's function - the dust cover is also not shown. Sets of toggle links are not impossible to find - watch and troll on eBay. If you need more info contact me again - restored lots of old 73 Winnies. Good stuff here - but lots of patience and work would have it shooting again. If you need more info contact me. Ted

I was looking for a firing pin and was told that this gentlemen can make parts ( try Bob Harvich....1-204-255-8988. If possible he may make you one. )
