Somewhere on the prairies by the look it it, somebody is shooting 50-95 in the video below. Looks like a blast! Anybody have opinions on theSe rifles?

Great video! Would have been nice to see the bullet impacts on target. "Everybody gets to gigglin' when they get firin' it". That statement's a winner! Had quite a laugh when the shooter choked on the bp smoke. We've all been there. Thanks for sharing.
Note: I'm not sure that's on the Prairies. Looks more like a hardwood bush in the background. Typical Carolinian forest type. Ontario, perhaps?

I also have the '76 in 50-95. Brass was $300 for 40 pieces. Dies were another $150, plus $150 for casting mold. Corlanes gave all that to me for free when I bought it.

I wonder if the 45-75 is the best of the bunch, especially for hunting. The rate of twist in the 50 seems it shouldnt like l9nger bulllets
 
Love the gun. My first loads were 50 caliber Lee modern Minie (fly soup can) paper patched to just over bore size. Amazing accuracy, but needed single loading: the wad cutter hung up on the feed ramp. A later custom from Mountain Molds fed great, but never achieved the cloverleaf type groups. Bangs gongs nicely.
 
I got mine from Corlanes. Any Uberti dealer should be able to get them. I have the full length rifle, it makes an 1873 look like a toy. A carbine version might be a little easier to work with.
 
Wonder if the 45-60 is the better choice in the short bbl? Also heard you can trim down 4570 brass and start loading
 
I cut down .45-70 brass to make .45-60. This makes it really easy to reload. Though I have not been able to get very good groups using the 300 grain bullet that was originally loaded for the caliber. When I have time to get out to the range I will be testing 405 grain bullets to see if the accuracy improves. It seems that Uberti barrels on these guns have a faster twist then the originals and so the longer bullet might just do the trick.
 
I have a couple original 1876 in 50-95. I shoot them both. I use Goex 2F, 340 gr bullet sized .510”. Very good accuracy up to 150 yds. I have some proper 50-95 headstamped brass but have made brass from 50-90 sharps. I have 50-95 dies but have used 50-70 dies to seat the bullets until I found dies. There is no substitute for the thrill of shooting BP. I have found that proper BP loads are more accurate than smokeless loads.
 
Chaparral 1876 in 50-95 here. I am amazed at how good the gun is when I ready so many bad reviews.

I am only using smokeless as I hate to have to break the gun down for a thorough cleaning after using BP. Love BP in front stuffers but not leverguns.

I worked up a load using a 350gr cast bullet.

Needed to change sights to get it to hit what I am aiming at. But it sure turns heads when it comes out of the case.
