1884 Martini breech loader

G'day community. I'm a newbie on this site and have heard lots of good things from the guys on OOD. I recently took possession of some of my grandmas firearms. In the collection was a:

Description
Rifle, breech loading, marked "Enfield", crown over VR 1884 I.C.I. no. 26 (SB)...Martini Henry artillery carbine, calibre 1.15 cm, Great Britain. (OF)

I find this gun very intriguing. One truly unique fact about this firearm is that my father found this in a tree when he was a young pup, with no bald spot I'm hoping someone on here would have more knowledge of this gun and era it was produced in. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Green is right. It's an infantry rifle either a Mk.1 , 2 or 3. Interesting that it's marked "ICI". I have seen that mostly on artillery carbines. Close ups of all of the marks will help us identify what, where, why. Is the stock stamped? Photos!!

Our President of the company I work for, just inherited a rather strange
coat rack which is made of 3 firearms with bayonets just like in your picture.
He (president) says he got it from the estate of his uncle who
got it from his great-great grandfather who brought them home from
the Boer War. It also has some sort of artillery shell mounted with it.
He says it's going to the Regiment museum/clubhouse or whatever His ancestor was in originally. Really to bad about the Gun Registry
as his Uncle removed the trigger and other bits rendering the guns useless.
Damn Registry ruined these museum pieces.

What's even worse is they are antiques and do not have to be registered... nor do you need a license to own one… Very sad
 
Deer stalker, you have a nice looking rifle there!
Its hard to tell but the extractor looks to be missing or rusted out...?

The only way to tell her true condition is to strip and give her a harsh cleaning!


Martini henry rounds are fairly easy to reload and can be done by hand without any fancy presses and tools, though the all pro guys can load some really custom loads with fillers etc....I myself have not reached that level yet.

I have put conicles and roundball through my dame and she shoots better then me;)

Strip her down and give the old war horse a scrubbing!

I have taken some time to draw, to the best of my ability, the markings on the receiver and stock of the gun. Bare in mind I'm not an artist:p I would have taken more pics but the camera is currently 4 hours north.
