The cocking issue could be a weak or loose trigger spring.The sear may also be worn

new Uberti 1885 needs to be manually c ocked too
thought they were all like that but idk

My C Sharps high wall will bring the hammer to full #### every time the lever is cycled.That s how the original Winchester high wall and low walls are meant to work

If memory serves the self c0cking feature was removed after a certain point, I think that may have coincided with the addition of the takedown feature being offered. The spring setup on these is also a bit different to allow for the takedown. Your rifle may be functioning as designed.

When I load a round and lever close

the breech it half cocks , when levered again the hammer full cocks.

Must be right because it isn't dirty or worn enough to fai.l .

Really nice looking gun , You are correct on the hammer latching
when I click the trigger forward it does catch.
