1885's

Owned quite a few over the years, here is my latest in 1885 trapper 30/40 Krag before I re-barreled it
After the re-barrell by Ron Smith ( RKS)) with a 26" . medium sporter in 260 Remington with a gain twist ..
That particular scope is only on there for load development BTW, a more versatile scope is on there now.:cool:

A tip of the hat to you Sir, sweet looking rig.......

Thanks, I really like the new barrel , the rifle shoots well offhand.
I never did shoot the danged 30/40 barrel!

I loaded the 40 rounds, and took it to Red Deer too shoot it at the indoor range while my son was in meetings, but I decided to visit Ron first and show him one of my Shuetzen rifles, and this one never made it out of his shop! LOL

I have been a fan of the B-78 since I was given a 6mm as young fella... I have owned many since... they are a slick action and wonderful to carry. The set pictured below are 6mm Rem, .30/06 & .45/70;

You ripped the barrel off a TRAPPER 1885 30-40 KRAG and rebarreled it ! I think you should be strung up and have your NUT's cut OFF ! f:P: :p jmo RJ

Number one, it was a NEW 1885, not a vintage and anyone who actually new 1885's would be able too tel,ll that was a new one.
Two, if i DID take the barrel off a Vintage gun it would only be because the original barrel was wrecked .
I shoot my guns I don't look at them!:p

Love the 78 and most singles. In 78 I have a rebarreled 17 Rem, 22-250, 30-06 and a 45-70. Had few others but like them all. The BPCR is in high demand and brings the $$. For less than a Ruger #1 I think they are a good buy.

Atta BOY ! I knew you would have a GOOD reason and excuse ! :cheers: Jim

Right on ! I just had a LW Mountain rifle built in 260 Rem - its a good Cartridge ! RJ
I was going to do it in Ron's favorite- 6.5X59R bases on the Krag, but iit would mean buying more dies and using true Krag brass instead of .303 Brit fire formed brass.
I also happen too have a set of Redding micrometer competition bushing dies n in .260 and a ton of 243 brass too form cases with!:p

Hoyt you surprise me, you being a Ruger man and all i would never have thought:p

I've gravitated to Ruger through use... they fit me better, and have never let me down... but believe it or not, I started with mostly M700's and M7's, moved to M70's and then fell back in love with my original M77 .308, and wondered why I ever left. I have had many, many rifles from most of the mainstream manufacturers (never owned a Savage centerfire) and some not so main stream... but you are correct, I am plain, old, boring vanilla these days... and these M77's and No.1's just keep on keeping on... with regard to this thread... I am still and always will be a falling block fan, be it No.1, B-78, or 1885 et al...
