i'm hoping someone can help me. i have a Browning 1886 45-70 Lever Action Carbine, i'm trying to find out what is worth...i was told by a local dealer that it was only worth around $800 or so, but recently i have found them on auction sites for 1400 and up. this one has the round banded barrel, it's stamped "1 of 3000", has the saddle ring on the left side , beautiful engraving w/whitetail on the left and bears engraved on the right..it's in absolutely MINT condition. it has been fired previously (but you'd never know), and i do not have the box for it. any help would be greatly appreciated !!..it's an awesome work of art but can't find a "true" value, i'd post a pic of it if i could figure out how too !!LoL

I would contact Browning with the serial number and ask questions about date of manufacture and if it is a commemorative etc. It would not likely be an original 1886 piece. The ring on the side is showing it as a saddle ring carbine. As for worth....just what someone is willing to pay for it....I do not beleive that they are as collectible as Winchesters, but there should be some Browning officianados that will want it.

I have a couple winnies like that. That were "Unfired and pretty". But the dollar value seems trivial compared to the joy of shooting them as they were meant to be. If they are in demand, they bring thier value up...if not ...the looks from others at the range, make it all worth the shooting. And the 45-70 does let you "feel the recoil".....

I have a few lever guns and drooling can be seen each time I show up. I have drooled too when I saw a 1886 45-70 original octagon winnie rifle and then he shows me a 1894 38-55 takedown rifle that was manuf in 1899. Both lovely to look at but even nicer to hold and fire. I did get to enjoy them both as they wanted to shoot my 25-20 Marlin I had there at the time. Love those range times....lol...lol

I had the same carbine, but in the Grade 1 version. Your's is the Hi Grade. Very nice gun, but I would certainly use it. I think $800 is a bit low, but $1,400 might be getting up there a bit.

yeah thanks fpr all the info guys, i think it's safe to say; with your input as well as other info i've found , is that anywheres between $1000-$1200 is a safe bet., thanks again all
