1886 Winchester 45-90 value

Started scrubbing on the bore WOW was it ever dirty. After we got the loose stuff out we slugged the barrel with cerrasafe and started lapping with 220 grit to scrub rust and high spots out. After 3 slugs we were played right out but happy to report it is coming around. Will continue slugging and lapping until we get down to 800 grit. Rifling looks great, will end up with some pits but she is going to shine again.

Easyrider.......you did just fine on that rifle and so did smoke73..don t second guess yourself, people like throwing numbers around , based on nothing and backing it up even less. Blue book value on a 1886 with 10 % finish is $850, yours had no finish, you do the math, throw in a little for the cal and pistol grip and take off a little for the bore and mag and wood, and what have you got ....around $750. Ellwood Epps is always over priced so you can t use them as an example, .........
I have a lot of winchesters and many 86 s. That rifle was worth between $500 and $1000, a real good deal at 500 and not so good at 1000.

Got my new Savage on the weekend. Ended up with a thumbhole .17 hmr, lefty. I have put a box of shells through it so far. Shot a pigeon today, sure did a number on him... I am happy. I'm eager to hear more from Smoke about his 45-90 project.
Stalled out a bit broke most of the gunny's heavy cleaning rods knocking the slug back and forth the first few goes. Man she was rough to start. Anyways if anyone knows were I could find some good brass rod let me know as we have more slugging to do on this one and got another waiting.
Most welding stores should have 1/4" brass brazing rod. I used to make muzzle loader ramrods out of them, cheap, sturdy, easy on the bore, easy to thread. Oh, and it should be pretty easy to rig up some sort of slide hammer, if you're not already doing that.
