I'm kinda new at bayo collecting and I know of this Lee Metford bayo selling for $65 in VG condition without a scabbard.
Does this sound like a reasonable price ?

If it's not a shapened, broken tipped, cracked grip piece of rubbish it could be a good deal.

FWIW, examples in good-vg condition typically sell for over $80US without scabbard on e-pay on a regular basis. By that yardstick, I'd say it's a good price if the bayo is decent.

In fact, scabbardless P1907 bayonets often sell in that range these days!

$35 bayonets

April 1st will be the Orangeville gun show at the fair grounds...theres a fellow who always showes up for that one and he has about a dozen long lee and metford bayonets for $35...fair to good shape without scabards a little more with scabards.
E-bay is not where you want to check prices  If you,r not too far away may well be worth your while to check it out.:D

Well, I paid embarassingly more than that for a nice one (albeit with scabbard), so I'd say go for it.

Speaking of....

I have a Wilkinson 1907 bayonet that I aquired some years ago, dont even know what rifle its for.

Its appears to have been shortened to 12" by someone from that time period, as the finish is complete to the tip. However, the wood grips on one side have been glued rather hastily back on as they cracked in half and fell off at one point it seems. Also the false edge has been sharpened.

Info on the rifle its for and any whatever measly worth would be appreciated.

Apologies if this is a highjack but its in the relevant timeframe :)

I bought the LeeMetford 1888 bayo - Type 2.

My wife says you fellas are a bad influence and your no longer on the Christmas card list. :p

Manufacture date is Oct .1896 by SandersonSheffield
I'll say it's in good condition with some tarnish on the metal and abit of pitting on the pommel . Otherwise , the handles are in good shape with no cracks and the blade is unsharpened and the point is ...pointy.
I talked the seller down to $50 from $65 and he "forced" 2 beers on me as well. ;)
I'm happy with it and it makes a great addition to my ever growing bayo collection

Bayo

Probably a fair price but unless has interesting regimental markings etc, I'd hold out for one with correct scabbard. Two years ago I gladly paid $100 at a local show for an as-new, un-molested '96 example to match my 1896 L.E.
I'd avoid eBAY, nothing like seeing it for real at a gunshow even if costs more.
