Wondering if anyone ever swapped out their Rossi front sights? I find my front sight is big. Great for short range but passed 5o it blocks out important details of planet. I might change my buckhorns while I'm at it. Any tips or webpages... Are they hard to change out?

I shot a real winchester 44 mag lever action and the sights were smaller and more precise... [F7] Spell check :)

I have a Rossi chambered in .357. I found the sight was mounted in a slot that is a little larger than standard size. I tried replacing the sight with both a standard Marble's and a Williams and found both were too loose.
You could replace a front sight by filling the loose slot with Devcon epoxy or something similar, I may do that with mine. A much better choice than a bead for a front sight is a "Patridge" style blade with brass insert angled away from the shooter to catch light. they are much more rugged and precise than the fiber optic sights, but some prefer the FO. It doesn't cost much to try both and see what you prefer.
In my humble opinion a Buckhorn style rear is the worst excuse for a sight that was ever invented! The big wings on the sides obscure the sight picture and do nothing to aid the shooter. Adjustments are crude at best. I removed the rear sight on mine and installed a Williams aperture sight. Accuracy was improved and so was speed of "target aquisition".
One other point - if you are obscuring your target with your front sight, you are probably using a hold that puts the centre of target covered by the centre of the bead. Try a "6 o'clock" hold - more precise for most shooting and you can see what you are shooting at.

One other tip - sight slots are tapered from slightly wider on the right to narrow on the left. To remove a sight tap them out with a brass punch left to right, install is the reverse.

.... I've got a Rossi in 357 Magnum as well. And yes, the Factory sights do leave a little to be desired. The Fore SIGHT, I'm planning to simply file it down very carefully , narrower and perhaps even file in some serrations to educe the possibility of "glare". Longer term plans, include fitting, either a receiver mounted Aperture sight, "Williams", or similar, if available, or perhaps even a "Marbles" type Tang sight.. ....... The Rifle is fun to shoot, the 38/357 a pleasure to reload for, AND, it's shown the potential to be very accurate, out to 50 meters at least, with Iron sights ...... David K

Yeah David 50 yards it is a great shooter. I can hear the odd ding of iron from the standing position at 100. Glad I've got company.

The bucket horns aren't great either I had to take the metal adjustable piece off to get it to shoot ok at 50 if was 4 inches high on the lowest setting. Great little gun with good sites for 25 yard dinging.

Anyone hunt with their 357?

Never thought of a blade...Hmmmmmm

Got a new front sight and a replacement for the buckhorns in the mail thanks Rustywood

If can do it with out a big mess I'll post pics of the install

... I've just got Home from two weeks of Camping with the Family. Before I left, I did file down the foresight. ( Filed carefully on both sides, to make it thinner. Hopefully, later this week it'll be off to the Range, to "test" the modification. ... 'Anyone have specific suggestions ( Model and make? ) for a simply installed, Aperture sight, or even a Tang sight ? ..... David K

Google Skinner Sights and Steves Guns. Both offer options for the Rossi. I have the rear peep sight on order from Skinner and may go to a FO front from Steves.

Take Care
