Mr. B_noser. Not doubting you sir. I thank you for this. I have a keen interest in Canadian issued Metfords and Enfields. I seem to be gathering them up. Mostly sporters which become resto projects , but the curious butt stock info remains.
Any provenance of where an arm has been is priceless to history buffs.
I have to get my head around the organisational structure of these batteries. I understood that artillery batteries were at that time designated by letter not number. I may well be wrong, the protocol might have changed. Hence my questions.
You stock disk being stamped would be clear readable info. My carbine has info stamped into the wood, not quite as high definition but I still believe it to be an 'E'.
