Would smokeless light loads be safe in this 1895 model 12ga Davenport shotgun ? I tried to find info for it on the net but there ain't much. Winchester approved smokeless light loads in its 1897 model and this Davenport shows a 1902 date on it. I loaded 60gr of 2F with slugs without problems.
Anyone here ever tried one ot those with smokeless shot shells ?

Give us a couple of good close-ups of the underside of the Chambers. Want to check if it's Damascus barrels.

If marked FLUID STEEL or ACIER FONDU, then it should be safe with regular shells of the RIGHT length.

CHECK chamber depth. Some old guns were made for 2-inch, 2-5/16, 2-1/2, long before the 2-3/4 became the standard. It will definitely NOT be 3-inch or 3-1/2-inch.

Keep your loads sane and there's no reason you should not be able to shoot it for a lifetime.

With a 1902 date, it will NOT tolerate steel shot.
