I got out with the old '95 this WT season and it performed like the veteran it is. The rifle was a barn find 30/40 krag with a rotten bore. Barrel was sent off to Rob jury to be rebored/rifled to 35cal then it was sent to Vulcan refinishing to get some lipstick slapped on the old girl and rechamber to 35WCF.
Got out to my stand a little late opening morning. (move a little slow these days) seen one spike that I thought pretty seriously about taking....but in the end I let him go about his business.
After sitting a few hours I walked back out and had some lunch then headed back out. Got sitting in the stand and watched the squirrles, birds and a coyote. couple hours later I caught some movement through the trees...I could see it was a deer but couldn't see horns. I got the '95 to my shoulder and waited. Sure enough as he come clear of the thick underbrush his rack became clear....slowly and as quietly I brought the hammer to full c*ck. Once he gave me a clear shot I got the 125 year old iron sights lined up and the 35WCF barked and the 200gr sierra pro hunter round nose was on it's way at a lumbering 2400fps... The 4X5 buck dropped where he stood before the echo had faded....First day of rifle season and i'm done.
Hanging and skinned I found no exit. I'm guessing the bullet is lodged in the spine between his shoulder blades. If I find it I'll post picture of it.

I have to give my lovely wife credit with all she does. After the shot I send out the call...And before long she comes out with the quad, wagon, and my kill bag. Gives me a hand gutting and loading him onto the trailer. I'm sure it's quite a sight the two of us but we have a good time joking with each other.
We butcher it our selves. and tonight we had heart stew and rice. I could not do it without her.

Did some digging around and found what's left of the 200gr sierra RN... all 79.4grs of it. I'm not a bulletoligist but it's pretty messed up. Granted it took a tough path through the neck and breaking quite a few vertebrae. I think the core is up the centre of the spinal column. The jacket was stuck in the center of the spinal hole. Maybe I should go with a bonded bullet or the 250gr silvertips I have. In the end the 200gr did what I asked of it.

I wouldn'y change bullets, the buck dropped where he stood, and that cup and core Pro Hunter went through multiple bone like you said.
What it looks like now doesn't matter IMO, it penetrated and expanded !😃

Agreed. Why change what works? Unless you wanna do high shoulder shots this looks like a fantastic bullet choice.
