I got out with the old '95 this WT season and it performed like the veteran it is. The rifle was a barn find 30/40 krag with a rotten bore. Barrel was sent off to Rob jury to be rebored/rifled to 35cal then it was sent to Vulcan refinishing to get some lipstick slapped on the old girl and rechamber to 35WCF.
Got out to my stand a little late opening morning. (move a little slow these days) seen one spike that I thought pretty seriously about taking....but in the end I let him go about his business.
After sitting a few hours I walked back out and had some lunch then headed back out. Got sitting in the stand and watched the squirrles, birds and a coyote. couple hours later I caught some movement through the trees...I could see it was a deer but couldn't see horns. I got the '95 to my shoulder and waited. Sure enough as he come clear of the thick underbrush his rack became clear....slowly and as quietly I brought the hammer to full c*ck. Once he gave me a clear shot I got the 125 year old iron sights lined up and the 35WCF barked and the 200gr sierra pro hunter round nose was on it's way at a lumbering 2400fps... The 4X5 buck dropped where he stood before the echo had faded....First day of rifle season and i'm done.
Hanging and skinned I found no exit. I'm guessing the bullet is lodged in the spine between his shoulder blades. If I find it I'll post picture of it.
