1895G tang site?

Would it be pointless to put a tang site on a Marlin 1895 Guide rifle?

I'm wondering if the 18.5" barrel length will not really shoot to 200 yards any way so getting a tang site might be pointless?

I think that you would defeat the purpose of the Guide Gun putting a tang sight on.
But if you do consider how the rifle fits you and the recoil of your particular load. My 1895 was a thumb shredder with a tang sight.
 
I agree with sahara, recoil will compound things and your guide gun will not be as quick on target. I'd suggest either the williams receiver peep sight, with the option of removing the small aperture or a ghost ring rear sight, if you don't like the factory sights. A fire sight front is great as well!!!

mine has a weaver base with see through rings for up close and personal + a weaver 2.5-7 on top. would never have bothered but this rifle loves leverevolution rounds & will cloverleaf at 100 meters from a bench ( course with a hole that big clover leaf is a bit easier ).. even with the ported barrel the lever-evol. rounds push my a$$ back almost out of the chair - no one stands near me when i touch it off.
 
Thanks for the input. I was thinking of using it for moose this season but not sure if it has enough range. Originally bought it for bear protection at work but never end up carrying it. Really do like it. The recoil does not bother me much at all. It is a nice, well balanced, portable shoulder canon. Might have to trade it in for a 30-06?
 
See through bases were designed by the scope manufacturers to sell more scopes. A lot of people who grew up with iron sights just were not convinced a scope would be right for them. Presto, put these basis on, then you can revert to instant use of the iron sights, if you don't like the scope.
The see throughs are the worst of both worlds. Poor iron sights and a scope so high your eye doesn't line up with it. I can't for the life of me see how the see through contraptions have survived all these years.
Like Ben said, put a good, micrometer adjusted aperature sight with a large "hole" in it, such as no screw in disc. Or, I have done like someone else said, a very low power scope.
 
A tang on a heavy recoiling stubby gun? Probally not.

I've have a 2-7 leupold on my 1895G and can feel comforable out to 200yrds with it with the right handload. (300gr at 2300fp or 350gr at 2100) even the 420gr at 1750fps is still just a slight hold and would put the lights out on anything you hit at that distance.

I'm going to a Skinner sight though this year, I just like peep sights and they suit the gun better IMO.

I've got a buddy who blasts lots of deer (pests) in his field (crop management) anywhere from 100yrds with many out to 200yrds + his longest was 286yrds (laszerd) with his scoped 1895 LTD.

Trajecory is an old indian word for practice.

I figured out my load with a scope them removed it. Thought a short lever should not have one. With my old eyes the sight picture at 100 yds just didn't inspire confidence. The gun was a drill with the scope and about 2" without the scope. Put the 1.5x5 in superlow mounts back on. Last zero checking group is a .65". Still very small and handy and quite confident that bullet is going where I aim it.
