The late Johnny Mann of the Fusiliers Mont-Royal, walked off the Dieppe Beach with 8 bullet holes in him. One of which was a compound leg fracture. He didn't know about it until asked how he got off the beach by the MO on the ship. Johnny went on to serve as a Commando in Combined Op's. All five foot nothing of him.
Rest in peace, Johnny.

Some kids on here need a history lesson, Johnny Mann died 30 some years ago, today's the anniversary of the Dieppe raid. You know Operation Rutter/Operation jubilee.

Of course it was. Sunray just pointed him out as an example of the sacrifice out countrymen made on this day 72 years ago. The title of the thread is a pretty obvious giveaway.

Thanks for the reminder. I almost forgot the significance of 19 Aug this year (and I am not a kid). My wife, daughter and I had the opportunity to attend Warrior's Day Parade at CNE on Sat. It has always been on my "bucket" list. Made it happen this year.

Retired and serving CAF members were provided with free admission to grounds and GO Transit allowed the member and one other free passes on trains and buses. Well done and Thank You to both for providing this opportunity to our Service Members

19 August 1942 was my uncles first visit to France, he stopped on the beach for a very short time before getting back on the boat with a 7.92mm ear piercing. May he rest in peace.
