1903 Long Lee??? Helb photo expose of hideousness added pg Deux

Sear in thoe old ones was a bell-crank with a blade on one end for the cocking-piece and a knuckle-joint at the other end, joining trigger and sear lever. Doesn't interchange with later parts at all. Single-pull trigger is generaly a giveaway for those.

Body (receiver) marking is for a Lee-Enfield Mark I*. This must be one of the very last made.

Barrel should be Enfield rifling profile, 30.2 inches long and with the shank diameter of a Number 4 barrel.

If it were mine, likely I would shoot it, but then, I am partial to mild loads.

Somebody really ought to turn out a lot of Enfield-rifled barrels in 30.2-inch length; there are sure enough of these old girls want one.

I think I'm going to sneak away and rend my garments or something. Then I gotta find same sackcloth and ashes.......

Nice toy in its way. If only Bubba hadn't played with her first.....

The heat treatment is important, and since the welding has to have affected it, particularly right at the locking lug recess...the receiver has to be viewed as compromised.

What's the point of going further with the rifle?

No:
receiver
stock
barrel

Nothing much else there except a deer rifle as it sits.

You have a point, that it may have been softened excessively by the heat. In which case taking off what amounts to a massive bridge over the receiver may be a bit of an unknown. It's a labour of love now either way, and if the bore was excellent I'd be inclined to try and do something with it, but that's just me.
