I hate to hijack someone elses thread, so I didn't want to post pics of my rifle in the other 1903 price thread.

Been thinking of sending this one off to a better home, but before I commit to selling, I'm curious if I'll even get a decent price to make it worthwhile of selling.

Also, before I get harassed, I didn't put the scope on it. It's how I got the rifle.

I'm forever terrible at trying to get a picture of a rifle bore, but this one isn't the prettiest. It's got some pitting and dark spots, but the majority seems to shine up with a good cleaning. Still has decent rifling left as well.

The bolt also has a bit of pitting on it, not sure how serious most people would consider it, but it's never stopped me from firing it.

Also, if it helps any, serial number is in the 3183### range.

What is the distance between centres of the bases, ie) centre to centre of the bases?

Fecker scope, and remington barrel, is it also a remington action?

Almost certainly a post ww2 target rifle.
 
The action is a Remington & the barrel stamped date is correct to the serial number. Doubt highly the scope & mounts are original, & with a quick glance it looks like a correct set up to me. I'm using an el crapo labtop, but the stock is the only thing that looks aftermarket. It appears that it is pretty thick through the wrist? A Boyds? Again, could be this screen?...

But if all the hardware is correct & it has functional, period correct scope on it ; I'd say it would at least fetch $2500. And I'm being conservative. Not being there to fondle it keeps my estimate low. The rifle itself is about thousand. Not sure who manufactured the scope? But the mounts have got to be worth at least a couple of hundred or better. Trying to source the stuff here is the fun part. So even if it is a reproduction, it appears to be a nice one!

The value of the rifle alone is compromised because of the holes drilled in it.
If the stock is original to the Remington 03, there should be stampings on it.
Sure looks like a Fecker scope and mount set.
Certainly more valuable than the 03A3 (already drilled and tapped) that I set up with a Weaver 330 to simulate an 03A4.
Maybe $1200, based on the replacement costs of what is there.

Yes, it is a Remington 1903. The stock is a "scant" stock, commonly seen on WW2 production. Original to the rifle? US GI stock? I don't know.
 
Scope is a Fecker, rear mount is also stamped Fecker but not noticeable stamps on the front mount. I think the scope is 16x, but perhaps it's a badly formed stamp for 15 too. It is stamped near the eyepiece.

I can't find any markings on the stock, but it does seem like it's a thick piece of wood. The butt plate is smaller, and the wood protrudes past the butt plate, all around it.

Not sure what the value of a drilled and tapped rifle would be, but the last time I bought a comparable Unertl scope with mounts and original wood box, it cost me $1000.
 
I don't think that Feckers have quite the market appeal of comparable Unertls, or Lyman Super Targetspots.
The rifle should be a dandy shooter, with an interesting vintage appearance.
 
Purely guessing on what I can see in the picks: I don't think it was ever an arsenal refurb. Scant stock would be correct to me, albeit it looks aftermarket to me.

Looks like a clone of U.S. Marine sniper rifle to me. Although any picture I can find right now shows it in a "C" stock configuration.

I'd bet it is a Boyds stock. There actually a better shooting stock than the original for me.

mount spacing is wrong.

It's a post WW2 scoped rifle, probably set up fairly recently to simulate an M1941 by someone unfamiliar with the mount spacing.

Correct mount spacing is very important with these external adjustment scopes as it determines elevation adjustment values.

Shoot it and enjoy it for what it is, a nice target/varmint rifle, or something to use in vintage rifle shoots.

Its a heavily modified target rifle which would be an interesting shooter. The original military configuration and collectability has been lost as a result of various parts swaps and the D&T receiver. The stock is a GI scant replacement. All Rem M1903s were produced with straight grip stocks. The bolt handle has been altered for a scope and various other small parts have been used. The majority of Rem made parts are stamped with the letter "R". The barrel is original to the receiver. It would be fun to shoot.
 
No argument about it's lack of collectability for a hardcore nut. But I'd bet it would still fetch a pretty good dollar from someone who just wanted an "authentic", "Saving Private Ryan" kind of shooter at a gun show.

IMO: Most would be pretty ignorant & probably not care....
 
After what's been said, I'd still try for close to 2k... Although the others figure I'm on the high side. At $1200 think it would be sold before you could finish typing the ad...
