Looking for some info/help with the windage adjustments on the rear sight on my 1942 Remington made 1903. I’m pretty certain it never was click adjustable but when turning the windage knob should the sight be moving or is it a loosen it/ adjust manually then retighten type deal? Mine is the later at the moment which makes me think something isn’t right. If so can it be repaired or does the complete sight need to be replaced?

The windage knob moves the rear sight laterally and it should hold its new position when you stop turning the knob. Loose rear sights can be due to a worn windage knob or sloppy fit of the moveable base in the fixed base/barrel sleeve.
I normally selectively fit moveable bases for best fit. There are some other fixes like lightly peening the front/rear lips of the fixed base or shimming the top of the post that the base rotates on. Make sure the windage knob threads that engage the teeth at the front of the moveable base are well greased. I'd suspect worn windage knob threads first.
