1906 Model 94...

Because it's not a 30-30.

I'll sell every one of my own guns before I sell one that belonged to my father. Every F-ing One.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Pass it to your son, just as he did, and most likely would have been happy to see. I can only speak for myself but every time I hold my old mans rifle, the memories come flooding back and those are priceless. I hope your son can feel the honor, which is how I would describe it for me, of carrying my grandfathers rifle thinking of the places it's been and the animals taken in its 98 year life. In the end it's you rifle, but what's 400-500 dollars in the end? A slice off each cheque would cover that in no time and you keep you lo mans rifle.

Bought him a BLR in 7mm-08, Dad's gun is back in the safe...and just for the record, my father never took me hunting, his hunting days were over by the time I was old enough to carry a gun, 5 kids and a dirt farm will grind you down. I taught myself to hunt with my Cooey .22, ( bought with hay bale tossing money ), and my Gramother's old Stevens single shot 20ga.

I think it is more important to take the boy hunting....Memories are made, and stories told for years to come, from the nights spent at the hunting camp in the company of lifelong hunting buddies.

Now yer talking................
That BLR in the chambering you found will last him a lifetime.
Just don't let him play with tools around it.

Cool...We both did the "buy 1st. Cooey with hay bailin' money" thing. I still have & use that Cooey.
Your son will no-doubt take all manner of critters with the 7-08. Should get the 32 Winnie out
for some hunting as well.:)
